Closed State for Account Holder
Release date: June 11, 2025
Impact: Customers can now close an account through API
Audience: All customers
Action required: None.
Products affected: Update Account APIs

Overview

Previously our Update Account endpoint supported updating an account to PAUSED or OPEN. Accounts can now be CLOSED. A closed account will not be able to transact or create new cards. When the Account state is changed you should also call the Update Financial Account Status endpoint for financial accounts to change the status to the equivalent state.

Closing an account is a terminal state and cannot be transitioned to ACTIVE or PAUSED states.

Accounts can also be set to CLOSED by Lithic due to failure to pass KYB/KYC or for risk/compliance reasons.

User Impact

This change is additive only. Care should be taken when placing an account in a CLOSEDstate since it cannot be undone.
